A Un kept Promise

The south wind caresses the black sail soft,

Moving the booty that resides below.

Heaving and panting arms of the craft,

Casts herself into the sea; come tide’s flow.

The red sun rises in the horizon,

Like the colossus standing with pride.

I stand on her deck fearing my turn,

When I’d walk the plank at high tide.

Like the mewling babe, the wind cries,

Taking us deeper into the sea.

All I can do is naught but sigh,

And dream of the days I was free.

Caught and bound am I, in a pirate ship,

Hearing their mad rambling laughter.

All my hairs stood on their tip,

When our ship faced their slaughter.

We were birched like a thieving lad,

Stripped to the waist, bleeding and brooding.

All I could do was curse the thought I had,

Long before; that took me to the sea, trading.

“Bring the scallywag!” came the pirate captain’s call,

I was stood, and taken to meet the rogue who stood tall.

Ever slowly and steady came the drawing of steel,

That promised the sharks a delicious meal.

I just had time to thank the supreme lord,

For he saved me from the dreaded plank.

My bane was naught but the pirate’s sword,

I was glad of joining my ship, which they sank!

As the metal pierced flesh, I cried,

A wail that sang the pain of my sorrow.

“I will come back”, to my beloved I’d lied,

With the setting sun on the morrow!

Ah woe is me! For my word I cannot keep,

A last cry and I fell, onto the board of the devil’s ship!

My love, my wife, the shade of my heart, she will weep,

Awaiting my return from mine unending trip!
